It drives me crazy not knowing exactly which prepositions are correct in these cases:

1) When I want to indicate that Sb or Sth belong to Sth. Example: Bono is the singer to/from/of/in the band U2? Which ones are correct?

2) On/in/at the film/sentence/song/post. On/in/at that case. What about thhose?

Thanks for your time.

1) "to" is not correct.  "from" can be used if you see Bono on the street (lucky you), "HEY!!! AREN'T YOU BONO FROM THE BAND U2?????".  Here, Bono is removed from the rest of the band.  "of" and "in" I see as pretty much the same.  You are looking at the band as a whole, maybe from a photo album or picture in a magazine.  The singer of the band in this picture is Bono, he is the one in the center.  "in" would be an extension of "of".  Instead of introducing new information, it is assumed we know something about the singer in the band U2 (Bono).  You know the singer in the band U2?  Well, he was at the music store signing to celebrate the band's new album.

2) In the film, sentence, song.  Here we are talking about a part of a whole, so we need in.  At a point or on a location.  We have neither with these three words, so we have to use in.

With "post", it depends on the context.  I think "in" should be used, based on the three words above.  However, we could say "at the post" if the post relates to the location of a post.

1) I was asking because I've seen many magazines and newspapers write "Mr. X, the lead singer to the bandY", or "The video-clip to the song W is fantastic".

2) Could you rephrase the point number 2? I don't think I got it. When I said post, I meant post like in the message boards; threads.

Thank you.

Bono is in the band U2.

The band U2 consists of several people. So it will be natural to say he is in the band U2.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the film I saw ......

Let us take a TV program. I saw Mr. Bush in that program. By the same token, in the film will be the natural choice.
-----------------------------------------------

If the case is some issue, argument, etc. I would write 'in the case'.

Let us take some political issue.
We would say in the present case, people of this country .............

The word case has some other meanings too. For example, people put CDs in cases.
