I'm writing my memiors and my family speaks highly of it's captivity and interest. But, I this one little thing is bugging me, how do I end sentences with quotes. And this is what I mean...

“We store it in the freezer to kill bacteria” my parent’s say.
or
“We store it in the freezer to kill bacteria.” My parent’s say.

Which one is the proper way?

Like this:

"We store it in the freezer to kill bacteria," my parents say. (That is, with a comma after 'bacteria'.

Put the comma inside the quotation mark. If the parents exclaimed or enquired instead of merely said, then replace the comma with an exclamation mark or question mark.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
