I think "his work" should be changed to "their work'. Am I right?

"Some have compared his work to Picasso's."

Depends.

The sentence is fine as is, as long as you are refering to art work done by one person.  But if you are refering to work done by a collection of artists, then you must say "their work."

Danyoo's response above is perfectly correct.  However, if the "some" in the original sentence are comparing work they, themselves, have done, then "their" would be appropriate - and slightly presumptuous, I dare say.
