Incredibly new?????No, I learned this last year from a documentary. When I first heard of it I got surprised  like you, too..I don't know exactly now which country decided to do this because there was a general statement. It just told it is forbidden his relatives to get married(even they administered an oath to them) because there were people who had a kind of mental illness which is hereditary and has no cure in his family.(sorry I can't remeber its name now)Also Hitler was thought to have this illnes, too.So, as a solution they wanted to hinder his genes to pass new generations. If I don't remember wrong, one of his relatives was shown in the documentary but it was an old photo probably he is not living now.

This question is less than polite and illegal to even ask publicly in my country.

YES THEY DID.

If you can't bother to read, at least go and watch Spielberg's "Schindler's List".

You can watch TV, can't you?

No... of course not everyone.

But the poster does have access to a whole lot of historical material.

He has access to Internet.

...and he is using the internet to find out more information.

It's possible that the op was taught a version of this history that conflicts with the mainstream one and is now questioning that. This should surely be encouraged and not condemned.

Maybe, Nona.

But as a Jew, moreover, a Jew with ancestors that were killed in the Shoah, I feel deeply insulted by the way the question was asked.

Alex, I really don't see anything insulting in his question. If he is from a place where, as Nona suggests, the Holocaust is denied, and now finds what he is hearing elsewhere to be in conflict with what he has always been taught, then good for him to trying to get more information.

He said he was confused, not that he didn't believe it.
