I was browsing some pages on the 'net and one advert for the India Times grabbed my attention; it was a collection of headlines, and one of them read, "Cops suspect gang of gays behind serial killing." (Article here.)

The first thing I did was to check the date, and to my suprise it read 17th Jan 2007 and not "the year of our Lord, 1492." Here is the article, reproduced:

MUMBAI: The police suspect that the South Mumbai serial killings are the handiwork of a gang of frustrated homosexuals.
However, they are still to make any headway in the case.

"Last night we questioned three homosexuals but did not find anything,"said ACP Prakash Aade. Round-the-clock police patrolling has driven homosexuals and drug addicts away from their haunts under the flyovers and dark corners.

Marine Drive, Chur-chgate station, Oval ground among other places were said to be favourite spots for the homosexuals. They look for partners at night and roam around with them.

On January 14 night, a Marine Drive police station team was on patrol duty when it saw a 55-year-old man sitting with two teenaged boys under a bridge near Chowpatty.

"The policemen questioned the man if he was a homosexual, the latter confessed and was brought to the police station. The accused, Ramesh Chaudhury, who cleans cars is unmarried and had promised the 17-year-old boy to arrange a job for him. The victim had just come from Basti, UP, to Mumbai.

Is India a fascist state? It would seem so. The police are arresting people solely because of their sexuality, and producing as evidence only the fact that the alleged killers are homosexual.

Would anyone from India like to comment?

There are places in the world, including some states of the U.S., where homosexuality [especially the practice] is actually listed on the statutes as illegal.

what has that got to do with randomly deciding a homosexual committed a murder and thereafter randomly arresting homosexuals?

In the States, "profiling" by officials is quite common.
