What are the differences between hope and wish. Which is correct I wish so or I hope so and why? ( Would you mind to recomand a book to read in this matter)

I wish so
I hope so
In simple terms, 'wish' is a more 'dramatic' version of 'hope'.

(I don't know of any books, perhaps one of the others could suggest reading material)

Usenet is like a herd of performing elephants with diarrhea - massive, difficult to redirect, awe-inspiring, entertaining, and a source of mind-boggling amounts of excrement...

I think 'wish' is a more active term. We 'make' a wish, but we 'have' hope.

If my wife is ill, I hope she will get better.

If I have been rude, I might wish I never had.

Hope this helps

Hi!

You might try the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary for an explanation as well

Wish is to have a desire, often to change something

Present - I wish I was taller ( i am small!)

Future - I wish we could go to Alaska next week ( we can't, its cancelled)

About someone else - I wish he would shut up

Past - I wish I hadn't dyed my hair purple ( its purple now and looks bad!)

Hope is more the expectation of something desired

I hope it is sunny tomorrow ( I really want it to be sunny tomorrow, I am waiting with expectation to see)

Hope this helps

Thanks every one

i think 'hope' has more possibility than 'wish'.
means we say 'i wish' when we want something that is less realistic.
we say 'i hope' which is more possible and we hope for future. while we can use wish in future and past.

like: Iwish, I were a bird.
and

I hope, I will be fine in my exam.

and
I wish, I had got A in my assigment.

i hope it will be helpful.
many thanks
