Could someone help me with these:
'He remembered vividly seeing me, a peaked, shivering child walking one freezing morning, my inadequate overcoat fastened across my little chest with HORSE-BLANQUET PINS.'
'But if I had pinned my coat, my mother would have WHALED ME.'
