A friend of mine visited a couple and he asked the wife of the man "how is your children"..I want to know if this is correct.

It should be:
How are your children? (if they are referring to more than one)
OR How is your child? (if there is only one)
BUT if they now if the child is a boy or girl they would say:
How is your son? OR
How is your daughter?

Well...A very good and funny question for me to tell the truth....You know, that person has said those words just like in a hurry, that`s the point. But if you want to know how to say this sentence with the help of the grammar it must be used with "are", be sure, dear friend!

Yeah. I agree with you, OrijoV. Children is plural. So it must take "are" in the question or sentence. Think how to answer the question.
"How is your children?" "My children is fine" Not true
