How to answer the questions?

(A)   Did you eat the cakes yesterday?

(B)   Didn't you eat the cakes yesterday?

how do i answer these above questions?

If i ate the cakes;  Yes, i did.

If i didn't eat them; No, I didn't.


I understand that we can answer for the questions of (A) and (B) something like this
