Hi, I have a question about no-subject sentence (I call it like that) and one question about being on holiday on New Year. . Please help me with this..

I have the sentences :

Now, I prepare the final exam before having (or taking or what ?) the Lunar New Year. To mention (or Mentioning, or Mention ?) here, I happen to remember that....

Are which the blue words adn the red words I used correct ? And is there any way else to express the same meaning ?

Thank you so much.

Hi,

I have a question about no-subject sentence (I call it like that) and one question about being on holiday on New Year. . Please help me with this..  I don't see any sentences here that have no subject. in both of your sentences, the subject is ' I '.

I have the sentences :

Now, I prepare the final exam before having (or taking or what ?) the Lunar New Year.

You need to say something like     Now, I am preparing for my final exam before the Lunar New Year.

To mention (or Mentioning, or Mention ?) here, I happen to remember that....

I don't clearly understand what you are trying to say here. Try to say it another way, and please supply a complete sentence.

Are which the blue words adn the red words I used correct ? And is there any way else to express the same meaning ?

Best wishes, Clive

It was a pleasure getting your reply.

Now, I prepare the final exam before having (or taking or which one is correct ?) the Lunar New Year. To mention (or Mentioning, or Mention ?) here, I happen to remember that my friends invited me to join a party at the end of year.

With blue words, I mean :

When I mention here, I happen suddenly to remember that my friends invited me to join a party at the end of year.

That implies the subject of the word "to mention" is "I". But I don't know which kind of verb or noun I should use here : infinitive, subjunctive, or gerund ?

And the red words, I want to use it as gerund or noun phrase. For example :

Now, I prepare the final exam before TAKING (or having ?)the Lunar New Year .

Could you please help me with these.

Thank you.

Have a nice weekend.

Newbie2007, are you from China. I can easily understand you in a native Chinese speaker way. But in a native English speaker way, it is hard to understand what you are trying to say.

The first sentence is easy to understand. but the second one you used the wrong word "mention". You didn't "mention " anything actually, you were just preparing your final exam before the Lunar New Year. So, maybe we can try it in this way"

When I am preparing the final exam before the Lunar New Year, I suddenly remember that I have an invitation to a party at the end of this year.

What do you say about this sentence?

Perhaps you want something like this:

I am preparing for my exams before the Lunar New year.  And now that I think of it, I'm invited to a party for the New Year.

You can say "Now that you mention it" if something the other person says reminds you of something else, but we don't say "Now that I mention it."

Bob: Are you preparing for exams before the New Year?

Ted:  Yes.  And, now that you mention it, I'm invited to a party as well!  I hope I have time to do both.
