how do i write an acknowledgement in general

Hi,

I can't remember ever actually writing an acknowledgement in my life.

I wonder if they are more customary in certain cultures?

I usually think of an acknowledgement as something that is found in front of the first page of a book that someone has written.

eg Thanks to Tom and Mary for their patience and assistance.

Best wishes, Clive.

This thread is so long that I may well have posted THIS LINK TO WRITING ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS on it previously.
