I just want to know what would be a correct answer to the following question.

Sam misses his deceased wife so much that ___________

(a) it hurts   (b) he hurts   (c) he is hurt   (d) hurts him

I think '(a) it hurts' might be a correct answer.  What about '(b) he hurts'?

I'd say (a) too.  What hurts is the 'missing his wife' feeling, which would be an 'it'.
