I was checking to see if my answers are correct.

Add necessary hyphens. Write "correct" if no errors.

Hi Delly,

#3: You could say "convenience-driven," I believe.

#6: 81/2-by-11 bond paper would be my choice.

Hello, Delly.

You may want to consider the following points:

1. Sentence #3 is fine. A lot of grammar books would not recommend the use of a hyphen in noun+participle compounds (convenience driven) acting as adjectives IF they are not found before the noun (consumers) being described.

2. Sentence #4: ...to pass the 5-percent increase in employee wages

3. Sentence #5: ...nearly one half were highly educated professionals. Fractions are not hyphenated when they act as subjects (compare with two-thirds in sentence #4).

What you may be learning from this, Delly, is that hyphenation usually falls into a matter of "style" and not "grammar." And style can vary, depending on which style you follow. Also, check a comprehensive dictionary - often they will show hyphens and when you would use them and when you would not.
