Hi, yeah we were great horsemen and bowmen, not anymore though.  I have grown up in the capital of Inner Mongolia of China, I only had been to grassland once, riding on a horse for 3 hours, which was my rare experience of the Mongolian type of life.

as a half Mongolian and half Manchurian Chinese, I would like to tell you guys a current Inner Mongolia :>. I was pretty impressive by the BBC programme the wild China, a episode was about Inner Monglia. But we are not Barbarians nowadays.

tips

some damn Beijinger or Shangnese still called us barbarians.

Londoners think Northern English people are barbarians, though we're the nicest people you could want to meet. Traditions are important, but times change and the world moves on. Haven't been on a horse for about 30 years myself.

China has moved forward a lot in the past twenty years and I would like to visit the mainland. I worked in Hong Kong for about 6 months, which was great. That was in my past life, though, before I became a teacher.

Today is the first day of the English cricket season, a bizarre sport according to none Commonwealth people. You can play for 5 days and still end in a draw, which confuses Americans. I don't suppose there is a lot of cricket in China? I know that football is big and that there is some rugby being played. Do you play/watch any sports?

Would you tell us a bit about modern life in Inner Mongolia? It isn't a part of China that we hear much about in the UK.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Hohhot!

I'm glad to see a Mongolian from Inner Mongolia here. I'm from the independent Mongolia. And I've been to the Inner Mongolian border city, Erenhot, en route to Beijing. I heard people speaking Inner Mongolian there and it was slightly different from Mongolian we speak in independent Mongolia. It was like the difference between British English and American English. The accents are different; some word choices are different. :)

It's impressive that the traditional Mongolian script is official in Inner Mongolia. We do learn the traditional script in secondary schools, but we don't learn it fluent enough to use it everyday since it's not the official alphabet. Does everyone learn the traditional script there? Or only Mongolians learn it? Do you know it?

So how's life there in Hohhot, the blue city?

How u doing, sorry for not replying ur thread for over 4 months, i've been doing my thesis since the beginning of the year, now I handed in my first draft, waiting for the feedbacks from my prof.

I only saw cricket on TV, I dont think peope playing it in China. Football has been doomed to die for Chinese, watching our natinoal team is doing something you wanna kill urself. the Chinese football team failed so many times that we cant count. Rugby is just crazy. Chinese guys are more suitbale for skilled games like tabe tinnes, badminton, gymnastics.

the life in Hohhot is just like that in northern cities in China, no grassland, no horse, no plenty of Mongolian culture. lots of skyscraper, highways and squares are being built here, We are trying to minimize the symbol of grassland and something else. a "mondern capital of Inner Mongolia" is what we want.

I will attach a photo of Hohhot later

Hi, my fellow man in Mongolia, gald to meet you here, I have not been to Erenhot, a friend of main working there though. yeah, the traditioal Mongolian script has been well preserved in here. you saw all the signs on the street have both Chinese and Mongolian languages. In Hohhot, like me, many Mongolian Chinese are now totally sinanized, We can't speak Mongolian and unfimilar with the culture. there are only a few schools in the city offer full Mongolian-speaking classes. they can learn the Mongolian language in there.

I got my undergraduate degree in Hohhot, some Mongolian international students are studying in the city. those kids got lots of money, and kind of enjoy themself on compus. Have you got some mates in Hohhot?

regards
