Hi all,

I lay down and I felt better for it: why don't you lie down too?

1.Why does 'I felt better for it' mean?

2. Why isn't it 'why didn't you lie down too?' Isn't the speaker talking about what occurred in the past?

Thanks for your help.

Success - it is not the position where you are standing, but which direction you are going.

1) for  it: as a result of it

2)  past in the first part; present in the 2nd

Thanks for your reply Marius Hancu.

What might be a situation in which a person would say that?

Thanks

We are both very tired. You insist on staying up, staying occupied, doing a bunch of chores. I go take a nap.

Later: I get up and tell you how refreshed I feel. You are still tired, and NOW you are cranky too.

Seems like a very good thing to say to you at that point!
