I agree that that wasn't an argument. I simply copied the part of sentence from the original question. I'd like to replace it by 'spot' when I'd be ready...

As to Kanji, yes, I should have that in my mind. How did you use UTF-8 code when you wrote your signature in Chinese?

And I'm wondering still if the difference between "desired future" and "predicted future" is only conceptual one or not.
(In addition in formal semantics ...which I'm into ... there's no place of 'speaker.' This is a clear disadvantage of it. I have to admit that.) (I was vaguely thinking: what we could do is to decompose verbal semantics. Yes, I have to admit in the first place the expression 'uncontrollable change of state' etc. too, was not clear at all, sorry for that. I'm so sleepy, almost melting away.)

If the grammaticalised form〖be+going to~〗is optional (some-kind-of) future-reference form, so to say, then its meaning is, too, optional, there should be an overlap with other forms.

(I'm confused again... Take care!)

Roro,

I can recongnize your 口谷口 (mouth-alley-mouth) but I wouldn't say it's pictography or hieroglyph. 谷 is no longer a pictorial symbol though it once was. Your question is interesting as Paco said. But frankly, I didn't really get your 'uncontrollable verbs' either. I understand it after reading Paco's reply.

What Paco said.  Big Smile [:D]

Hello MrPedantic. I have an off-topic-question, As to the word〖preposition〗which you kindly forced on me. The following is its definition (from Webster's online dictionary): ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 1. A function word that combines with a noun or pronoun or noun phrase to form a prepositional phrase that can have an adverbial or adjectival relation to some other word. 2. (linguistics) the placing of one linguistic element before another (as placing a modifier before the word it modifies in a sentence or placing an affix before the base to which it is attached). ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ My question is: why one of the section in this EnglishForums is named【Words, puns, jokes and prepositions】? Prepositions ... it's a most uninteresting part of speech. I had been thinking so. But ... jokes and prepositions .... why? Please help.

Hello Roro!

I'm sorry about the prepositions. It wasn't my choice. I've been stuck in the washroom all day. (What do people do in there? It's disgraceful...irregular verbs in lipstick all over the mirrors...)

But you're right, they are a little dull.

As for the title of that section – Words, puns, jokes and prepositions

– I have no idea. It's a question I haven't liked to ask, in case people stare at me and say, What, MrP? You don't know?

But the truth is – I don't know.

I'll see if I can find out...

Hello MePedantic. Please don't feel sorry, I don't mind. At least I'm not writing an article for dictionaries. I asked that quite accidentaly, without any researches, so now I feel a kind of responsibility. I found such a explanation ... maybe they are close to the intended meaning?
[praepositio]
3. A preference, predisposition.
[praepositum]
A thing which, while not absolutely good, is advanced above the point of indifference.

Hello Pastel,
Yes, as paco has pointed out, what I wrote is not clear at all. Sorry ...I disturbed you.

Hi Pastel. What a relief...thanks!
I returned to your original question several times while following (somehow or other) your discussions. Me too, that explanation in "Advanced Grammar in Use" seems not satisfactory.
(By the way are you planning to go on a journey again? Where do you want to go if you can?)

Salut, Davkett!

I hear some would say 'a bit more messy'. Would you say that? Do you know if those who tends to say 'more messy' would also say 'more busy', too?
