I have been _____ this year. I don't want to do it again. (A) family (B) house (C) home (D) at home

The answer is option C. Why is option D incorrect?

.
It is an odd sentence, but D is wrong because it is a condition, not an activity (hence 'do' does not collocate with it).  'Be home' in the correct sentence means 'go to one's family home(town)'.

I cannot see the problem with being (or having been) 'at home'. Unless of course Mum is a bad cook (or a psychopath).
