“What is proper - I seen or I saw ?”
Anonymous, 307 days ago
HI:  I have a daughter-in-law who insists that you use "I seen" when speaking.  I was an English Major and have tried to tell her that "I seen" is wrong unless you say "I have seen".  I would like a final opinion about this to show her.

Thank you.

Hi,
She's wrong, you're right, of course.

Details of the verb 'see' are given earlier in this thread.

How do you help someone who says I seen?

If it's a learner who makes that mistake, then tell them it's wrong and they should say "I've seen" (or "I saw", it depends). Otherwise, if it's a native speaker, don't worry... They aren't likely to change the way they have always spoken just because you tell them so. Let them use their dialectal variations.
