Does the bolded sentence in the above sound good in the context? Is it better to rewrite it as "So I still beg your pardon?"

The original is overly apologetic and does not match the register of a sentence about a lost watch.  I beg your pardon is just wrong here.  I suggest:

I'll buy you a new watch as a replacement, though I can't afford one as valuable as the one you lent me. But  I still hope you'll forgive me.
