For a good scottish accent just watch Trainspotting or just constantly listen to Robert Carlyle speaking!

Hey there-ok I just happened apon this website and thought id lend a hand!I'm a Scottish speaking teenager who adores my accent even if its not broad Scot's that I speak. I'm hopeless at accents but i have to admit that I find it easy to pick up on local dialect of friends for example. You maybe intrerested in watching "Trainspotting" a film set in Glasgow with Ewan McGregor-listen to his accent and try to copy it. Failing that you could buy a pocket guide to Scotland or Edinburgh (the AA travel guides) at the back they have local dialect and words we use. you could try to pick up on them?hope this was useful!Smile [:)] Big Smile [:D]

Hi all,

I'm from Northern Ireland - Bangor, about 12 miles from Belfast.  Being a Protestant, we're from an "Ulster scots" culture and derive our accents from both a Scots and Irish ancestry.  I personally hate the Northern Ireland accent and find the strong Belfat accent particularly embarrassing, not only by the natives but more especially by those who try to mimic the accent.  There is nothing worse than being from a particular part of the world and hearing someone trying to copy the accent!  I have to say, however, I love the Scots accent and the Northern English (Newcastle & surrounding regions) accent but I loath the south of England/London accents.

Bangorian!

That's not a genuine Scottish accent, Kirsty. I bet you're from Basingstoke.

It's tricky - there's an over-the-top Scottish accent, which is fairly easy: once you've got that, you can start toning it down.

Just half-roll your "r"s, round off your "l"s and elongate your vowels (especially the "oo" ones).

I've been speaking in an Irish accent for a couple of months on and off, just to see what it's like (and because it's beautiful), and now it's taken over: my Scottish is terrible again! People have been fooled by the Irish though. I just heard some in a Sharpe episode and tried it out - you jut have an affinity for some accents.

I'm English... Don't like saying British, as I'm clearly not Welsh, Scottish or (sadly) Irish, though I can do all the accents. The American accents are fun too: Deep South's the easiest, but Boston and New York are quite good too. Russian is also fun: just turn your "l"s into "w"s and speak at the front of your mouth.
