[JCDenton"]Or does it mean that he just played the Samaritan in the metaforical meaning, that he offered help to someone / he helped someone

It should be metaphorical.  hope you don't mind my pointing out the spelling error.  Or is it a typo?

they won't get sued - they are protected by what are called "good Samaritan laws."
Hi GG, I was surprised to (just now) discover that all states now have them.  I didn't mention them because I was thinking otherwise. (How time flies!)  There are huge differences from state to state.  Some protect all citizens, others protect only professionals.  Still others protect citizens who have certified training.

A ridiculous commentary on our society, isn't it? "Oh, this man is bleeding profusely and clearly needs attention. But if I touch him and he dies, I may lose my house to his widow. Better let him die without any interference from me."
