the private motor vehicle has greatly improved individual freedom of movement. moreover, the automobile has become a status symbol. yet the use of private motor vehicles has contributed to some of today's most serious problems. how can the use of private motor vehicles be reduced?

Nowadays, cars are not so expensive than ever before so more and more people can afford private cars which bring people many benefits. But at the same time increasing the number of private cars also bring many serious problems, such as air pollution, traffic jams and traffic accidents. In my opinion, reducing the using of private cars gradually is good for all the people.

A dramatically growing number of people choose to use their own cars. Most people consider that owning a private car is a symbol of wealth and high social position. Hence some people do not consider whether they need indeed before buying cars. This tendency of increasing using private motor vehicles is harmful to society. Therefore, the government has its responsibility to let general citizens recognize that the intention of using more private cars is to improve the means of transport but not to show individual capital and social status.

People’s values cannot be changed in a short time. More people choose to own cars by themselves because of the decreasing price of motor vehicles; therefore, increasing the cost of buying private cars will be effective. In my opinion, Government should increase the tax rate for buying cars and consuming oil and at the same time decrease the cost of using public vehicles and improve facilities of public transport since customers always like enjoying better services by paying less.

To reduce the number of private vehicles benefits not only traffic condition but also environment. General citizens should own private cars when they really need them and the government should supply better public vehicles for people so that more people can enjoy great traffic conveniences and fresh air.
