Hi guys,

I don't understand quite well the words marked in red in the following sentences.
Would you take a look at them and comment some about what they possibly mean?

Thanks
pb

Q.1

W:  Wait, wait. You’re jumping ahead. What about the clothing bill?

M:   That was $600, but we had a $100 in-store credit. Remember that?

W: Got it. That matches.

Q2:
Terrorists may be driven to violence due to such things as economic oppression, religious fanaticism, and jealousy or hatred toward western democracy. Whatever motivates terrorists, their violent actions must never be viewed as anything other than nasty acts of cowardly behavior. Only by strengthening and extending the arm of international law can we combat global terrorism.

If you have a $100 "in-store credit" (or just "store credit"), it means the shop owes you $100 (perhaps when you returned an item to them), but instead of giving you the $100 in cash, the shop gives you a $100 credit akin a gift card or voucher. So you can use that credit for other purchases in that shop. In this way, the shop encourages you to buy from them.

Extending the arm of the law means extending the reach of the law, so that the law can be used and applied in more countries. In other words, criminals/terrorists hiding or residing in another country faraway can still be prosecuted by the same, universal law.

"in-store credit" means discount if you purchase from the store.
"arm" in this context means wing or division.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. Experiment it, Experience it and you'll Discover it!
