In this sentence, why are there quotation marks for the words in the trade and in the know ?

Most trades and professions have their own slang words, often shorter and simpler words for technical terms, which are used partly for convenience and partly to show that the speaker is 'in the trade' and 'in the know'.

Thanks

Success - it is not the position where you are standing, but which direction you are going.

I'm not really sure.  I'm thinking it's because 'in the trade' and 'in the know' are stand alone phrases that someone must have said originally, and therefore it's correct to put them in quotes?
