Inconvenient custom

Would you please point out my errors. Thank you.I got gift return for the cash gift to my nephew and niece for their school start. I gave them cash because they want to buy anything they want, and I received just half the price of department store coupon and some sweet. This might sounds ridiculous and inconvenient, but some people tale it rude if you do not pay back half the price of the gift you received. I hate this custom especially for the wedding. At wedding ceremony, you paid not a small amount of money and receive tons of return mostly heavy and unpleasant. In my closet, there are lots of wedding gift returns even with just low numbers of wedding ceremony. Things getting changed to more simply and cost effectively little by little. Sometimes I feel funny because I feel you are rude because you are complaining you does not receive anything just because you give unnecessary things to someone.
