I'm new here. I've written this article. I hope you will like it.Embarrassed [:$]

It comes to minds that the industrial engineering just deals with the industries and factories but that is not correct. It is right that the industrial engineer deals with the industries and factories but not that the only side of this science.

The industrial engineer is part of every successful system. This system might be information system or physical system, existing system or virtual system, mathematical system or theoretical system. Any kind of system is under industrial engineering profession.

Designing, improving, developing, or maintaining these systems are functions for the industrial engineer.

Operations Research, Information Processes, Engineering Statistics, Human Factors Engineering, and Engineering Management are areas of Industrial engineering science.

actually, from my point of view, industrial engineering is awkward. I dont have much knowledge about the situation in other countries but sharing the same curriculum with USA univerisities , it seems to me industrial engineers have knowledge about plenty of areas but not an expert in any of those. Do they? In my university an industrial engineer takes lessons from my major , namely computer engineering, from chemical engineering from electric electronical engineering and so on.

scrutinizing what you have written above, i keep on thinking so. We dont need the ones who know everything but the ones who are expert in their fields.of course thats my contention. you decide.

thanks for your reply , Janissary..
yes, you are right. so i think the industrial engineer should be in spicific side. So he/she should be an expert in one of the fields of the industrial engineering ( Human factor, Operation Research, Information Systems,.......). Don't you think ,my friend, that being an expert on these fields are useful for today's world ?
If you don't, then you should ask about the supply chains and project management and system development and many of departments in Today's organizations, You will find an industrial engineer there.

regards,

To me the answer is more or less "yes".

about operation research , information systems and such computer engineering based lessons are being taught to industrial engineers. but i dont know even in such areas they are experts. i have just started to university so i dont know overall situation . however, for example in my university an industrial engineer learns c programming language without learning alghorithm or c++. so i genuinely believe if an industrial engineer wants to work in areas that belong to computer science, he would be less prefereable compared with a computer engineer. If he wants to work in areas of electric or electrical engieering , again because of the same reasons there wouldnt be any change in terms of competetiveness.

Of course there are several advantages of having insight over several subjects but i would prefer to be an expert in a certain major.

regards

  hi again

I don't know about the situation in your university but I guess it is the reason for this misunderstanding for industrial engineering.
Janissary, you should know that each industrial engineer should choose  a particular  field ( from the fields which I've written them before) to study not just studying generally.
secondly, i think every engineer should has a background about each major of engineering so i recommend for your university to do that and give the students in the other majors a background about industrial engineering.
Operation Research and information systems are parts of industrial engineering major. Indusrial engineer are being taught the programming programms like C++ and the database like Oracle  and a simulation software like Aeana just to help him/her in his major. these programms are only tools for him/her in his/her field. The industrial engineer is much advanced than just work in computer science field.
I guess that you didn't choose your major yet. So my advise for you is to ask about  each engineering major to choose your major on the right basis.

Thank you Janissary

actually i cant make such a general comment.i cant say computer engineering is better. you know, it depends on person, interests, working fields, certain opportuntisies at a certain time, and even it depends where you are and so on.

thnks for advices free.
