Hello,

Which one of the following is better sentence. Looks like both of them have faulty pronoun references ('her'...'Agatha Christie'). If we are to choose one of them, which one would be better pick ? Why?

Agatha Christie's travels with her archaeologist husband inspired her to write several mystery novels.

Agatha Christie's travels with her archaeologist husband served as inspiration for several of her mystery novels.

Thanks.

The pronoun is fine. The meanings of other parts vary -

Inspired her to write...this sounds as though the trips created the urge to write

served as inspiration for ...this sounds as though the trips suggested information/settings for her writing.

'to write several mystery novels' - this sounds as though all she wrote was 'a few/several' mystery novels.

'for several of her mystery novels' - the inspiration only applies to some of her mystery novels, and doesn't give any idea of how many she wrote in total.
