The answer is Africa. Europe has 4 vowels, the same number of
consonants that France has. Africa has 3 vowels, the same number
of consonants that China has.
It is unlikely that the 2:4 - 2:4 vowel count solution is correct,
because analogies require a relationship rule, A is ____ to B, not
simply a pattern. (Let's call the 4 objects A,B,C,D, in order, so
the 1st object in the analogy is A, the 2nd object is B, etc). A
rule identifies a relationsihp between A & B and C & D, while a
pattern identifies a relationship between A & C and B &
D. For example, it would be preposterous to call "glasses are to
eyes as windows are to squirrels" an analogy simply because, in each
part, the first object is made of glass and the second is made of
organic material. Here we identified a pattern, rather than a
rule: although there is a relationship between glasses & windows
and eyes & squirrels, there is no relationship between both glasses
& eyes and windows & squirrels, except one that ABCD all share:
they are made of some material. A proper analogy would
be "glasses are to eyes as braces are to teeth." Here
glasses and braces are not independetly related, unless you take into
acount their relationship with eyes and teeth. In the China
analogy, Europe & Mongolia are independently related, without
taking into account their relationship with France & China: they
both have 4 vowels.
We could rephrase the vowel count in terms of a relationship rule: a ratio, Europe has
double the number of vowels
as France. But then the illustration of the ratio is exactly the
same in the second part of the analaogy, 2:4. In a prpoer
analogy, the illustration of the rule should change, say to 3:6, so the
particular numbers are different but the ratio is the same. For
example, it would be rather ridiculous, again, to say "glasses are to
eyes as reading glasses are to near vision." Although the
relationship rule "A corrects flaws in B" holds, the analogy lacks
depth because the illustration is just with another type of glasses.
So, through the proper form of an analogy, Africa should be the answer:
the relationship rule is the same, but the illustration of it is
different.
