As anyone who follows international news is probably aware, on March 23 fifteen British sailors and marines were seized by Iranian warships in the Persian Gulf and have been detained by the Iranian government ever since.  The Iranians claim that the captured Britons were trespassing in Iranian waters, but the British government has vehemently denied this and insisted that their personnel never left Iraqi waters.  The situation has turned into a stand-off between the two countries with Iran demanding an apology and Britain demanding an immediate return of their servicemen and women.

Anyway, this is a very important, interesting, and controversial issue in world politics today and I just want to hear some opinions regarding the topic.  Do you believe the British captives were indeed in Iranian waters?  Should Britain apologize?  Is there any way to resolve this crisis peacefully without the British apologizing?  What do you think of the international reaction?  Do you think Russia is helping or hurting diplomatic efforts?  Is Iran's treatment of the captives ethical?  Please share your thoughts.

It is pretty obvious what is going on. Britain is trying to establish justification for going to war! The boat concerned was doing its best to get the attention of the Iranians! It had been in in Iranian waters for hours!
This is a very old tactic! Some of us have long memories (Gulf of Tonkin etc.)
This STINKS!

What a scam!
The whole thing has been manufactured!
Complete ***!
Iran is not hurting anyone, as far as I can see. Leave her alone! Stop this idiotic, evil,  warmongering!

Are you suggesting that the British crew essentially volunteered themselves for capture?

If the whole thing's been manufactured, then to what end?  It seems to me that if that were indeed the case then Iran and Britain must be acting in accordance with one another, and I find that pretty hard to believe.

Assuming that they truly are at odds, then Iran is actually "hurting anyone" as far as I can see.  No matter who's at fault, you cannot deny that this whole dilemma has caused suffering.  Detaining citizens of a sovereign nation, especially military personnel, during times of peace is always going to ruffle feathers in the international community no matter the reason.  In taking captives Iran has put the burden of proof on itself.  The onus is on them to prove that the British were indeed violating their territorial waters, and so far they have not done so.
