Now I'm making a riddle, and I'm confused about whether or not putting an article "a."

I have "day" in my mind as the answer.  Of course, a few sentences are written before

the following.

[ A three-letter word beginning with a "d." ]

And, in addition, which is commoner, "d." or "d".  in this case?

The article is optional, but is usually omitted; put the period (full stop) outside the quotation marks-- but the quotation marks are not necessary.  Also, the capital letter is easier to understand.  Try this:

A three-letter word beginning with D.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
