Hi,

I would like to the origin of the word 'avatar' . I think it is a sanskrit/hindi word.

Does it mean 'alias' ?

according to my "longman dictionary" the origin of the word "avatar" is as following

Date: 1700-1800
Language: Sanskrit
Origin: avatara 'descent', from avatarati 'he or she comes down'
