What is the context of your sentence?

I think that I would say in this situation is "What if I were presenting a paper." But I'm not positive if that's what you're trying to say.

Hi,

Yes, you are quite close to what i meant to ask... let me elaborate abit more.

The situation is like when someone doesn't know when is your exam going to start and wishes you best of luck just randomly, and then you reply him/her by this msg that " 'what if I were giving paper' or already given and you are wishing me now! "... (in other words trying to say that he/she is quite late or sooner to wish)...

Huuff... hope you get my point now, what im exactly trying to find out...

Thanks,

HS

'giving paper' does not make sense to me, does it relate to an idiom in your native language?

You would just say, 'thanks! but I took it last week' or something similar. I can't think of an English idiomatic reply for this.

I'm glad to help, but I'm not a native! And please excuse my typos...
