Hello Friends,

A few days a ago I chanced upon a poster hung in my office' toilet and it reads:

"As much as you dislike a dirty toilet so does your colleagues"

I am just worndering whether it's grammatically a correct sentence. I am of the opinion that it should be as follows: "As much you dislike a dirty toilet so does your colleagues"

Could anyone please help me know the correct sentence?

Thanks,

Sabya

“"As much as you dislike a dirty toilet so does your colleagues"”

Hello Sabya,

There is a glaring grammatical error in your sentence: The word "does" should be changed to "do".

Otherwise, the sentence is a bit awkward, but the removal of the second "as" would only make your sentence even worse. You could reword your sentence this way:

Your colleagues dislike a dirty toilet as much as you do.

Or this way:

Just as you dislike a dirty toilet so do your colleagues.

I respectfully suggest: As much as (= to the degree that) you dislike a dirty toilet ("restroom" in the United States) so do your colleagues. ("Do" agrees with plural "colleagues.") In other words, your colleagues dislike a dirty restroom as much as you do.
