The only comment I'd make on your analysis is that I don't believe "keep pausing" can be substituted for "keep holding off"   -    but I'm sure you're aware of that. "Continue to pause" is sort of a grey area, but I think a pause definitely has a beginning, while "holding off" may not.  I think "keep pausing" calls for a series of stops rather than a continuous state.   - A.
