Is the semicolon correct?

My favorite meals include meat, potatoes, and gravy; a marriage of protein and starch.

It's a matter of style. I would prefer a dash, especially since there is no verb after the semicolon. Also, the comma after potatoes could be omitted.

Besides the dash, can a colon or comma be used?

Could someone please confirm whether besides a dash,  a colon or a comma can be used for the above sentence?

My favorite meals include meat, potatoes, and gravy -- a marriage of protein and starch.

The dash is after 'gravy'.

I would be grateful if one of the forum members reply to my query.
