he..he.. I should write it "According to Islamic teaching, war is only acceptable when Muslim is in defensive position".

My subjective opinion : Muslims who make war in offensive position are not real muslims.  However, I am not in the position to judge whether someone is a real muslim or not.

Hi Kabayan,

Oh, I do believe that the vast majority of Muslims are as peaceful as can be, don't worry. Most people are, don't you think?

But I still can't see Islam as an entirely peaceful religion. I don't see Christianity as an entirely peaceful religion either.

Hi Nona,

I am sure that for most Christians, the core teaching of Christianity is Love, as well as believing in Jesus as God and Savior.  And I know the core of  Budhist teaching is to live in harmony.

I do understand that some people see some  Islamic teachings as not as peacefull as they think it should be.  However, Islam as a "rational" ( Okay, this can be debatable )  religion should cover every aspect of human individual & social life, including how to deal with offensive forces, how to deal with criminality, etc.

As an example, death penalty is known is Islamic criminal law, but punishment is not as important as education in Islamic teaching.  Some Muslims may think that by giving punishment to criminals, they are implementing Islamic teaching.  But by forgetting the aspect of education, an important step of Islamic law implementation is skipped.

In my subjective opinion, Islam is the religion of peace because in principle, it compels people to make every effort to make peace.  I hope you understand my position.

One of principle in Islamic teaching is to use thinking in deciding everything, including in deciding which religion or faith should be taken or believed.  I am so sure that for most educated Muslims, choosing Islam is a process of thinking and comparing.  I am telling you this to avoid misperception that we Muslims choose Islam without the use of brain.  Smile [:)]

Lastly, There is no compulsion in Islam.  For you your way, for me my way.

Hi everyone,
I really don't know much about Islam. But what I can say is that even if it is "the religion of peace", I see there is a tendency to fanaticism, extremism, and fundamentalism. In Christianity, at least were I live and the countries I know, fundamentalism is very rare, extremely rare, and even if a few fanatics exist, they are not going to hurt anyone. That's the main difference I see. Of course I'm not saying that most muslims are fanatics or something, but I believe the average muslim is more "religious" and follows the rules in Islam more often, compared to the average christian. Being very "religious" becomes being a fanatic, for some muslims. In Christianity, as I told you, fanatism is very rare.

I hope you understand Smile [:)]

Dear Koyen,

That depends on how you define fundamentalism.  Fundamentalism was known in Christianity history, and it refers to some group of Christianity.  After some time, fundamentalism has a negative connotation In Christianity.

In Islam, making peace is one of "fundament".  Muslims who always make any effort to build peace can be called a Fundamental Muslims.  Muslims who reject this teaching and misuse Islam for Their own agenda are not Fundamnetalist, they are just "terrorists" and pseudo Muslims.

What you call "Extrimism" occurs in every Faith and Religion, we can't say that certain religion including Islam can be free from extrimism.  Extrimism comes from wrong interpretation, we can't blame a religion for wrong interpretation of some of its adherents, right ?

Dear Koyen,

Muslim should be clean because cleanliness is half of faith according to a hadits.  There are some Muslims who are fanatic about cleanliness.

Muslim men should treat women with respect.  There are some Muslim men who are fanatic about gentleness.

Muslim husbands should do enough "foreplay" before they make love with their wives.  A lot of Muslims are very fanatic about this.

I can show you many more similar examples.

Do you think those kind of fanatism are wrong ?
