It's very nice to meet a muslim young girl without a veil. You're really a girl with lots of personality. As you see, the most considerable quality in this modern life is this kind of character. My inborn quality is saying no without speaking and I should spend a lot of time to say yes  ,but I like the way you display your courage. Do you celebrate women's day? Does your man wash  for  your woman his own shirt on Mars the third? What do you think about women's liberation movement? I think without a veil on daily job except in some ceremonial events with a beret and a black veil made of lace like the downtown girl is really extremely admirable .Things change today, miniskirt, maxi, evening dress are fashionable but do you think it's more sexy than the past? I don't like abortion but in my country, it's the best way to liberate woman . In the past,an unmarried woman was getting in trouble, her head should be shaved and whitened and forced to knee at a corner of the court of the temple.Today, the public prosecutor should be retired , no one commit this sin because of abortion .Some people tell me do not wear a veil is liberating woman .Is there a joke like this in your country?

Most women in the western world are 'veiled' everytime they leave their home.

Most women in the western world will not allow themselves to be seen with no 'veil'.

Many women in the western world are uncomfortable if they are seen by their husband when they are not 'veiled'.

The 'veil' of the western woman is the face that she keeps in the jar by the door.

The Beatles sang of it in Elenor Rigby.

Most western women are virtually unrecognisible without their veil consisting of: cosmetics or makeup, sunglasses, wig or hat.

What's the difference with using a veil?  It is environmentally sound and reusable and much better for the skin.

I don't want to wear a veil and I don't want to be Lady Madonna with children at my feet wondering how I'll manage to make ends meet.

I want my right to choose. I don't want any man, woman, priest, dictator or book telling me how I have to live my llife.

Oh and Stannum, I don't wear make-up.

Possibly, but don't you think there is a difference between a tiny number of women who have agreed to dedicate their entire life and existence to religion wearing a 'uniform' they know is part of that life, and making the entire female population wear it, whether they want to or not?

I fully agree with Nona, wearing a modest dress( I mean to cover the body and legs )is totally diiferent from wearing overalls covering the face as a rule ,even if you are the ugliset one,and even if you live in a hot and humid tropical country, is ridiculous to me.I think this is a misinterpretation of the religion by some orthodox people.

wearing hijab in palestine is not a rule eventhough the majority of girls do wear it so they are not forced to, they choose to follow the teachings of their religion

Choice is a wonderful thing and I applaud your post.

There is choice all over the world in the same proportions as dogma all over the world.

Hi Jhumjhum ,

I was really distressed when reading your post . You think that what we do (wear the hijab) is RIDICULOUS!! Following a certain rule we BELIEVE in is not something silly to me even I live in the hottest place ever in he world. And certainly when I find someone acts according to his/her principles, to what he/she believe in. I would respect this person, merely because he/she is a man of principle. Secondly, the word "misinterpretation" is actually strange to be used by someone who is not fully knowledgeable of my religion that she can easily judge that wearing Hijab is "a misinterpretation of the religion".

I agree with Aleen that wearing Hijab, though it's definitely a rule, is utterly woman's choice to put it on or not. As it's the case with other religious commands, e.g we are told to pay a certain amount of money to the poor on the Eid ( a particular day Muslims celebrate on) we are told to fast a certain month, to pray and so on , most Muslims do these things, but others don't. Some Muslim Women don't wear it and the majority prefer to be seen while wearing the Hijab. And every Muslim (once adult and sane) is responsoble for his/her own actions.

My regards
