Hi,

Sometimes I am confused and overwhelmed by the use (or perhaps, overuse) of italics in writings I come across with. I think italics can substitue quotation marks in informal writing (not in formal writing??) but I seem to see them used in places and functions I am not aware of. Can you tell me some basic uses of italics?
