 Sorry for interrupting. Is 'RE:' better included in a formal letter? What purpose does it serve actually?

As far as I'm concerned, 'RE:' or 'SUBJECT:' as a heading is helpful to the reader of any business letter, as a quick and clear indication of the topic.  It is a sign of clear intention coming from a superior, and it is a sign of respect for one's superior's valuable time when coming from a subordinate.
