She decided to hire a lawyer/attorney/solicitor as she was going to get divorced. Which of these terms would be the best one to use?

Maj, the answer might depend upon your location. For example, in Canada a lawyer is not called "an attorney". A lawyer is known as a lawyer or barrister and solicitor. So your answer might be different if you are in the US, UK, New Zealand, Australia or wherever. If you are in Canada, go with "lawyer."
Hope that helps.
