IS speaking good English a bit of headache for you? But Huang Qing, 13, and Gu Lishi, 15, feel that studying it can be as much fun as singing and watching videos.
The sixth "21st Century Scholastic Cup" National High School English Speaking Competition was held in Beijing on December 7. Huang from Diocesan Girl's School in Hong Kong and Gu from Shenzhen Foreign Language School Branch won first prize.
Judges and listeners were impressed by their beautiful English. They also loved how much the students know and their good manners. How did they do so well? Huang and Gu told their language-learning secrets to Teens.
"Put yourself in a English environment," said Huang Qing. "All my teachers speak English in class. And I speak English with my classmates and at home with my parents too." Huang said that speaking English is natural to her; she never gets tired of it.
Huang also likes English movies, videos and books. Her favorite English stories are the Harry Potter books.
To Gu, studying English means listening, speaking, reading, writing and singing. Why singing? Gu said she loves English songs. When she learns a beautiful song, she sings it loudly. "I learn how to sing the words. But the words give me ideas about writing too," said Gu.
You see, learning English is not that hard. Why not take the winner' advice? Next year it might be you standing on the platform giving a speech!bodytext>
