could you explain the difference between leave vs. let/allow

"to leave" is "to go away (from)".

I left them at the corner and went my own way.
I have an appointment so I'll have to leave early.

"to let" is "to allow", which is "to permit" as well.

They knocked on the door. I opened it and let them come in.
OR I [allowed / permitted] them to come in.
