Hi all
The longest word is TWYNDYLLYNGS

Twyndyllyngs is the longest word in English that doesn't contain one of the five vowels (AEIOU). It comes from Welsh and is obviously rare, but it does appear in the Oxford English Dictionary.

It turns out that "twyndyllyng" (singular) is a 15th century spelling of the word "twinling," which means, in modern English, "twin."

Hi Benita! The longest word in the English language is actually (excluding scientific names that contain either hundreds or thousands of letters) is the 45-letter PNEUMONOULTAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANIOSIS - a lung disease that often affects coal miners in the conditions that they work in.

Did you know...?

The longest word with no consonants is 6-letter EUOUAE - it is a religious chant; the longest word with letters in reverse alphabetical order is 9-letter SPOONFEED; and in vice versa (the longest word with letters in alphabetical order) is 8-letter AEGILOPS, a plant family. Also, the shortest word in the language containing all the five main vowels (AEIOU) is 6-letter EUNOIA, a rarely used medical term that means 'a normal state of mental health'.
