Many look to the day when a cure for cancer will be found.

Many look forward to the day ...

Hi,

Do both of the above mean about the same to you? Thanks.

Hi Angliholic,

IMHO, 'look foward to' carries a sense of longing / yearning / eager anticipation; whatever you look forward to seems remote to you. 'Look to' connotes 'certainty'; soon or later whatever you look to will come.
