Transverse is an adjective so this is the word you seek.

The Collins dictionary;

transverse adj 1 crossing from side to side; athwart; crossways.

traverse vb 1 to pass or go over or back and forth over (something); cross.

A skier will traverse a steep slope by following a transverse route across the mountain face.

Please explain the above sentence in simple words. It's really a good example on the use of traverse and transverse.

I can not simplify the sentence.

It is clear and lucid and the post contains the definitions of both subject words.

I do not know how much more I can explain.
