I read this in blog. Could someone please explain why "makes" is not "make"?

Hi,

It is because the subject is "number":

...the number ... makes me happy.

But honestly, I'm not sure that "The many number" is correct. Unless it's some spoken slang I am not aware of. In any case, I'd say, "The great number of people who got..."

 Hi.  I guess "makes" is used because this verb relates to noun "who".
