And my glee was roused because I had caught Mr. Kipling napping. Here I had found a man not made from dust; one who had no narrow boasts of birthplace or country, one who, if he bragged at all, would brag of his whole round globe against the Martians and the inhabitants of the Moon.

What does 'a man not made from dust' mean?

Thanx!

Hi Vermont,

This is just a guess (I couldn't find the expression in the dictionaries, not even on google)

I think that it means that the man in question has a reputation or the roots-perhaps his origins (his family is well known and appreciated). That he is not a no-name.

Hi!

I think it's something from the Bible: that all people are created from dust and return to dust. Maybe "not made of dust" is supposed to mean that this man was somehow different from all the other people?

Yes; I think Adam was made out of dust and spittle.

I think the spittle was from another story about healing a blind man.
