At Yahoo, in hits:

1,640 for "searches of the web"
156,000 for "searches on the web"

And, anyway, most would say:
after many web searches

Again at Yahoo:
21,000 for "much searching on the web" which is the recommended one, IMO, should one want to use "searching"
1,220 for "a lot of searching on the web"

Searching is a gerund (noun) in the sentence.
