Hi,
The quote continues as follows. Many peoples worry about losing their identity in the face of globalisation. But opinion polls show that few fret about it more than the French.
'A people ' can be used to refer to the citizens of a country, eg the French people, the Chinese people, the Italian people. These three examples together can be referred to as 'three peoples'. Thus, many peoples means 'the citizens of many countries. That's a common thing to speak of when you are discussing globalization.
and what does "get rid" mean?? If you get rid of your TV set, it means you no longer have it. You may for example have given it to a friend, or put it in the garbage.
Best wishes, Clive
