These guideleines are from the following site:

http://medweb.uni-muenster.de/fachschaft/service/famul/letter_of_motivation.html

It refers to medical clerkship / internship, but you can adapt it for you special purpose.

GUIDELINES TO WRITE A LETTER OF MOTIVATION

This letter must be addressed to the professor or supervisor of your desired department. It should be written in English or in the native language of your chosen country.

The letter should be personal and include at least the following points:

Why do you want to do a clerkship abroad?
Why do you want to go to that particular country for a clerkship?
What is your interest in your chosen clerkship?
What do you expect from your clerkship?
What would you like to do during your clerkship?
Do you have any practical experience? (Medical practice in hospital, laboratory work etc.)
Theoretical knowledge?

This advice is from baltic Youth corporation:

http://www.byco.info/Motivation.htm

.: HOW TO WRITE a Letter of motivation:.

In this letter, the person who wants to become a volunteer, should give a detailed explanation including:

1. Why you want to go to the chosen organisation (choose 1-3 host-organisations from the next pages).
2. Why you want to make a voluntary service and what expectations you have.
Do you have any experience working in cross-cultural settings? What kind of work do you enjoy most?
3. What possibilities do you see for your personal development through this voluntary service?
4. What benefit would have both the hosting and sending organisation from your activities? What are your skills and experience?
5. How do you see the future connections/relations with and between the hostand the send-organisation?
6. How do you see yourself in the BYCo network and/or in other international projects?

IMPORTANT:
As you notice the questions above are not all of the questions and points which should be clarified and described in the letters. Any extra information is useful. The more information we have about the volunteers, the fairer the decision to acceptor reject their application becomes. The style of writing can be free, perfect English is not a criteria or a problem because the letter is only for inside use- not for EU. The information is used to let the host organisation and also the project co-ordinating organisation know what kind of people are getting involved in BYCo and will also make the ”decision making process” more fair and easier.

Personal information (CV/resume):
- Address (please: postal and also email)
- Education and language skills (written and spoken)
- Hobbies
- Experience and skills
- Special needs ....etc.

See if you can draft something, then post it here and we'll give you some help. Emotion: smile

Dear Moderator,

After a lot thinking and critically reading through others motivation letters , this is what I have come up with. I have a strong feeling its missing the touch. NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am writing to apply ofr Master of Public Health.

Throughout my secondary school I was most interested in heath related courses. I obtained a Diploma in Environmental Health. Soon after I went to Port Elizabeth University and graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Health. I took specific subjects such as Solid waste management, Food Hygiene, Management Practice and Biostatistics.

Since 2000, I have worked as a lecturer at a higher institution of learning. I lecture in Solid waste management, Health Promotion and Food hygiene. The students I teach are absorbed at sub-district level as Environmental Health technologists. Alongside this I am a member of Health Promotion Working Group at national level of which I have been priviledged to travel across the country to facilitate at various workshops and conferences looking at principles of Health Promotion.

I have improved my academic knowledge by doing a nubmer of short couses among others Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, Teaching methodology, Management skills and Management Hazardous Waste. In addition I chose to develop my professional and perosnal skills during a research in Bauleni settlement - Lusaka. The investigation concerned specific instruments and indicators on the evaluation of uncollected solid waste on Health and Environment. I find this experience I wrote a related topic '' Field report on attitudes , knowledge and practice of solid waste management among medical practitioner in Lusaka. My sociability, flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team help to do my job properly.

I find Master of Public Health corresponding well to enable me become an effective educator, reseacher, and service leader to not only the students I teach but also giving me an opportunity to be a consultant in the prevention and amelioration of diseases thus promoting public health at local and national community. It is my ambition to be admittedand pursue MPH specialising in Health Promotion.

The reason for choosing your university is its high rating among African Universities. My wish is to pursue a masters which is practice oriented. The education of such high standards is highly prestigius to my country. Moreover friends and workmates who have studied at your institution have expresses alot of positive opinion about your university staff.

Thank you in anticipation for your positive consideration on my application
